Welcome to the Macuacuane Lodge
(Pronounced ‘mah koo kwa nee’ by the locals and meaning ‘bush’)
Macuacuane is a remote fishing camp situated in Central Mozambique near the small town of Pebane. Pebane boasts authentic African culture; from local fishermen in their Dhows and Makoros (sea-going canoes) to the local produce market where you can barter for cashews, tropical fruit and the catch of the day. Its remote location has ensured that fishing grounds are untouched and unchartered. Pebane is also well known for its green spiny lobster and prawn grounds. This contributes to good fishing. In the past there have been at least two international Bill fishing competitions held in the Pebane area.
Macuacuane Lodge is nestled amongst coconut palms on a secluded beach. The Lodge is primarily geared to the serious fisherman looking for the “fishing trip of a lifetime”. It has been built with local products and with the help of local people. There are six rustic en-suite chalets - each thatched chalet offers comfortable twin accommodation. Dining and bar facilities are available.

The main activity at Macuacuane Lodge is deep-sea fishing. Fishing in this area is considered to be some of the best in Mozambique. The main fishing grounds comprise of a reef, a wreck and uninhabited islands. The reef runs parallel to the coastline, approximately 35 kilometres offshore and stretching for 150 kilometres.
The wreck was a container ship which fell prey to the reef many years ago and is one of the favourite spots. There are four islands that have not been fished in recent times, one of which has a 6 kilometre atoll - perfect for diving and fishing.
